A Family Story is more than a Family Shoot. I mean, why do we hire a photographer to take family portraits? We want to get pictures that we can give to our parents or hang it up on our walls, pictures to be put into a photo album. All that with the goal to wake and remember emotions. We want the observer to get a special feeling, as if he was a part of our family.
In my opinion the likelihood to create such pictures in a clean studio with white walls, everybody dressed up  for the special event, is rather low. Of course you can get nice portraits out of such a shoot but do they share emotions? Do they convey the feelings of your family? I don't think so.
When booking a Family Story I'll come over to your house or I'll accompany you on a trip to the zoo or wherever you like. I dive deep into your family life and become a part of that system for a rather limited amount of time. After a few minutes your kids and animals will get comfortable with me and my cameras and your family life will move back to normality. And that is what provides the opportunity to get those shots, those tiny moments, which are so important for me and my work. Those tiny moments which will make your heart glow up in 20 years and let your family members have an insight into your family life.
You don't need to dress up for a Family Story. Jump into something comfortable, be yourselves, play with your kids, feed them, do whatever you'd normally do. A Family Story is a short insight into your family life, but a very sympathetic one.
Your home doesn't need to fulfill many terms. It would be nice to have a slightly bigger and light room with curtains to control the light. And don't be worried about your kids or animals. I love both and can deal with them. It aint't hard for me to earn their trust and take those natural-looking shots that make the difference to those cheesy shots from the 90s.
